Deploying Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluations for Rare (and ultra rare) diseases

DECODE(u)R is a research initiative focused on increasing diagnoses of rare diseases through innovative strategies that:

  • Enhance diagnostic methods and accelerate treatment access
  • Apply and evaluate both existing and emerging genomic technologies
  • Guide the integration of precision medicine approaches for rare disease care

Cancer Genomics Project

The Cancer Genomics Project aims to increase the utility of genomics for childhood cancer through the adoption of new technologies. The project aims to:

  • Develop a real-time RNA-based cancer diagnostic platform
  • Increase the accuracy and clinical utility of childhood tumor-normal genome sequencing
  • Harmonize sample banking and clinical data curation

Therapeutics projects

PINPOINT

Preclinical Initiative for Novel PrecisiOn INdividualized Therapeutics

PINPOINT is pilot study focused on developing strong pre-clinical testing pipelines to shorten the time between diagnosis and receiving individualized therapies. PINPOINT aims to:

  • Develop at lease 6 preclinical genetic medicine development programs
  • Trial a pipeline for the rapid generation of patient iPSC (induced pluripotent stem) cell lines for testing of candidate therapeutics
  • Develop and implement robust iPSC differentiation protocols

Data projects

Expedition

Expedition is a data initiative at SickKids focused on enhancing the discovery, sharing and analyzing of data.  Expedition helps lay the foundation for:  

  • Safe and effective data sharing and analysis
  • Rapid data exploration through multiple sources in a centralized and secure location
  • Collaborative working across study groups in different locations

UnIC

Univers Informationnel du CHU Sainte-Justine

UnIC is a digital platform launched in 2020 to secure, centralize and structure the hospital’s clinical data. It consolidates information from over 30 systems within an ethical and confidential framework. The platform aims to provide researchers, clinicians, and managers with high-quality data and a powerful analytical infrastructure to support cutting-edge research, improved care, and hospital governance. In the context of digital transformation, UnIC enables: 

  • Fast and regulated access to large-scale data;
  • Identification of cases for clinical trials;
  • Creation of dynamic cohorts and databasesl
  • Development of hospital monitoring tools;
  • Development of an automated analysis system using AI
