Catalyst Program awards $2.1 million across seven projects to advance Precision Child Health

Seven innovative projects have been awarded a total of $2.1 million over two years in the second round of the Precision Child Health Partnership (PCHP) Catalyst Program – an initiative born from the collaboration between SickKids and CHU Sainte-Justine.

The program provides up to $300,000 per project to support research with the potential to revolutionize the development and discovery of novel approaches to Precision Child Health. Each project has a principal applicant from SickKids and CHU Sainte-Justine.

Through collaboration and leveraging each other’s resources, expertise, and vision, this partnership aims to drive new frontiers in individualized care.

Congratulations to the seven teams awarded:

  • Drs. James Ellis (SickKids) and Elsa Rossignol (CHU Sainte-Justine): Calibrating precision genetic therapy for MECP2 Duplication patients using iPSC derived cortical neurons and mice models
  • Drs. George Ibrahim (SickKids) and Alexander Weil (CHU Sainte-Justine): Sleep better, seize less: An advanced neurotherapeutic for children with epilepsy
  • Drs. Rosanna Weksberg (SickKids) and Philippe Campeau (CHU Sainte-Justine): Functional DNA methylation biomarkers: Impact on precision medicine for neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Drs. Yiming Wang (SickKids) and Thai Hoa Tran (CHU Sainte-Justine): Expanding the Genomic Landscape of Vascular Anomalies in Children
  • Drs. Aamir Jeewa (SickKids) and Gregor Andelfinger (CHU Sainte-Justine): Precision medicine for RASopathies: from molecular mechanisms to allele-specific therapies
  • Drs. Julien Muffat (SickKids) and Sophie Tremblay (CHU Sainte-Justine): Engineered Neuro-Immune Organoids to Model Patient-Specific Impact of Perinatal Insults on Brain Health
  • Drs. Olena Zhulyn (SickKids) and Philippe Major (CHU Sainte-Justine): Modeling patient specific precision therapy for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

Each project, including those in the first round of funding, demonstrates a profound commitment to advancing Precision Child Health that runs bone deep at both SickKids and CHU Sainte-Justine, elevated through the PCHP.
